I concur all! She was delightful and entertaining. I wish all children could have a teacher like her that will open them up to a new world of learning!

Rebecca Harper brought energy and passion into the classroom today with her love for picture books, clarity on point of view ideas, fairytale newspapers and letter writing, transitions from poetry to prose, along with a name unit that could mean a great deal to any age. She was refreshing and certainly complimented our hard work and free flowing ideas! Wonderful class!

It was an eye opening experience for me. I never realized that the same books that I read to my students in the first grade for inspiration could be the same books you can read to middle or even high school students. This goes to show you that our students experience the same feelings/thoughts at any age. Great demonstration!

I totally agree with your review of today's quest speaker. It was a great presentation, immediately putting my brain into "teacher" mode on how to utilize some of her ideas in my own classroom. As a plus, I also gained a new list of children's books to add to my collection.

By the way, if you are planning an event in conjunction with the National Day on Writing, please let me know. I am hoping to coordinate all local activities in some way

I agree, Cherity. She always provides a refreshing reminder that almost every strategy we discuss in the Summer Institute can be adapted to every student audience. I am considering ways to adapt the "I Am from . . . " prompt for my English 101 class in the fall.

I am also amazed that she has as many children's and adolescent books as she has ideas for using them.

Yesterdays author's chair was great! I adored the humor, sparring between Laura and Karl, quick wit and of course, the emotions behind Father's Day, loss of loved ones and the difficulties we are all dealing with on a daily basis. I love this class and all involved because it is from the heart and passion that we are all about.

I concur, Mary! Thanks to Monica and Latonia for the great snacks! I enjoyed Emily's presentation because it was a wake up call regarding texting. We all know it is not going away so it is our responsibility to integrate it into our disciplines, especially writing. Rosanna's demo opened my eyes to early writers and how difficult it is for some students to write. Sometimes, as teachers, we must step back and empathize with the children but also provide them with those learning experiences that they are unfortunately deprived of. Author's chair was WONDERFUL as usual...so much feeling and inspiration! Have a great weekend!
