We had guest speaker Rebecca Harper today from the Midlands Writing Project. Her demonstration was very insightful, useful, and entertaining. I thoroughly enjoyed listening to her today and she gave me some great ideas and resources for future use.

I agree, Cherity. She always provides a refreshing reminder that almost every strategy we discuss in the Summer Institute can be adapted to every student audience. I am considering ways to adapt the “I Am from . . . ” prompt for my English 101 class in the fall.
I am also amazed that she has as many children’s and adolescent books as she has ideas for using them.
I totally agree with your review of today’s quest speaker. It was a great presentation, immediately putting my brain into “teacher” mode on how to utilize some of her ideas in my own classroom. As a plus, I also gained a new list of children’s books to add to my collection.
It was an eye opening experience for me. I never realized that the same books that I read to my students in the first grade for inspiration could be the same books you can read to middle or even high school students. This goes to show you that our students experience the same feelings/thoughts at any age. Great demonstration!
I concur all! She was delightful and entertaining. I wish all children could have a teacher like her that will open them up to a new world of learning!
